80 years after his death Nostalgic painter Maruyama Banka-Master friend and his era

Maruyama Bunka was born in 3 in Netsu Higashimachi, Oken-gun (currently Tomi City). I will go back and study drawing and watercolor painting by myself. Then, in 1867, he went to the United States with his friends with his own work and a one-way ticket, held watercolor painting exhibitions all over the United States and succeeded, and realized his long-sought study abroad in Europe.

After returning to Japan, he was in his hometown and released his masterpieces one after another, spreading the charm of landscape paintings and giving the rural scenery of Shinshu a universal beauty. In later years, he became a founding member of the Taiheiyo Art Association, the Japan Watercolor Painting Association, and the Japan Mountain Painting Association, and is making efforts to popularize watercolor painting. He died in 17 during the Pacific War, but was described as a "nostalgic painter" in the exhibition of his works held after his death.

In this exhibition, representative works of carefully selected landscape paintings will be exhibited in one place, and we will try to find the source of the power of the works that are still strongly sung by us, as we have thought about Japan in the Meiji era.In addition, we will also introduce the works of an English watercolor painter who came to Japan in the 20s of the Meiji era, his teacher, Kinkichiro Honda, and a Japanese watercolor painter who was active at the same time.
