Higashiyama Kaoru Tang Invitation Temple Mikagedo Barrier Painting Exhibition

Kaii Higashiyama (1908-1999), a Japanese painter who has been highly praised in the postwar Japanese painting stage for his tranquil and lyrical landscape paintings, and is still sympathetic to many people.
Through a long period of painting, we have accumulated sincere dialogues with landscapes and established a unique mental landscape backed by a Japanese view of nature.
This time, all 68 barrier paintings of the main temple of Risshu, Toshodaiji Mikagedo, Nara, which is a monumental masterpiece of Higashiyama, will be exhibited in one place.

This barrier painting, which was produced over 1971 years from 46 (Showa 10), is a praise and reverence for Jianzhen Kagami, who came to Japan from China and opened Toshodaiji Temple after overcoming many difficulties. With all my heart, the sea and mountains as the ideal nature of Japan and the scenery of China, the homeland of Jianzhen, were drawn.

In this exhibition, we will introduce this barrier painting, which is normally closed to the public, by partially reproducing Miei-do, and Higashiyama conducted interviews in various parts of Japan and China to compose this prayer landscape. Follow the trajectory of the museum from the sketches and figures below. At the same time, we will exhibit a number of important works in the museum's collection that show the way to the Toshodaiji Mikagedo barrier painting.

From the series "Landscape with a White Horse" produced while working on the barrier paintings at Toshodaiji Temple Mikagedo, all the works in the museum's collection (4 works, 15 studies), Nara / Yamatoji at the stage of designing the barrier paintings "Yamato Haruaki", a series of works based on the theme of "Guilin Moonlit Night" (1976), "Huangshan Rainfall" (1978), "Narae Kureiro" (Narae Kureiro) Please enjoy the deep thoughts of Kaii Higashiyama over barrier paintings such as (1978).
