The Contemporary Pastel Association is the only publicly recruited organization for pastel paintings in Japan, which was formed in 1989 with the aim of contributing to the spread and development of pastel paintings.
Since its establishment, it has held exhibitions in Tokyo and Osaka every year, and continues to present masterpieces mastered by artists belonging to all over the country. At present, with the support of the Agency for Cultural Affairs and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, we are recruiting not only from Japan but also from overseas, and our activities are spread all over the world.

Pastel is an art material that is made by kneading powdered pigment and a small amount of water-soluble adhesive with low stickiness into a stick shape. The appeal of pastel is said to be its pale, bright and vibrant tones, but it also has the side effect of making it difficult to mix colors.
However, today's writers are pursuing the possibilities of expression that pastel has by creating excellent works one after another according to their sensibilities while skillfully utilizing the characteristics of pastel painting materials.

We hope that you will take this opportunity to appreciate the selected works collected from all over the country and to know the fresh charm of today's pastel paintings and the fun of them as painting materials.
